Peltzer Wins Again To Earn Spring Campaign

has maintained his undefeated record and set himself up for an ambitious assault in claiming the scalps of some highly touted rivals at .

The Gerald Ryan-trained youngster took up the running in Saturday’s Darley 2YO Handicap (1300m) and gave his rivals the slip, coasting through the heavy ground to score by four lengths over favourite Overlord .

The runner-up’s Chris Waller-trained stablemate Ambitious was another half-neck away.

While several rivals were on trial for a start in next month’s Group One JJ Atkins Stakes in , Peltzer is almost certain to be spelled.

“If I have my way he is going out,” Ryan said.

“There are plenty of races in the spring you can pick with him.

“He is versatile so anything up to 1600 (metres) you could aim him towards, the , the Guineas.

“That’s why I don’t want to bottom him out now.”

A betting ring drifter from $2.90 to $3.50, Peltzer foiled a late plunge on filly Perfect Radiance who struggled into fourth.

Ryan regards Peltzer as one of his best two-year-olds and sees similarities with his former Group Two winner Rubick, the sire of Everest winner .

“He reminds me more of Rubick in stature but he’s like all the good ones, he’s got a great nature,” Ryan said.

Chris Waller remains keen to march on to the JJ Atkins with Overlord, provided the horse can make the cut.

The son of dual Group One winner was tardy to begin but picked up late ground without threatening the winner.

“Overlord ran well and it is still the plan to go to Queensland for the JJ Atkins if he has enough prize money to get into the race,” Waller said.

“Achiever also ran a good race and he will go for a spell now and be aimed at races like the and the .”

Hugh Bowman was also upbeat about the effort of Overlord, who had finished an eye-catching second to Peltzer at his previous start.

Bowman said the youngster’s effort was better than it looked given Peltzer enjoyed an uncontested lead.

“I think he ran better than the other day,” Bowman said.

“The leader had a picnic. The other day the leader went flat out and was stopping and the track is genuinely heavy.”
