In a case of third time lucky for central Queensland sprinter Master Jamie, his first Brisbane win has earned him the chance at the $300,000 QTIS race at the Gold Coast.
Master Jamie took his record to 10 wins from 13 starts with his victory in the Saturday’s QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
Trainer Graeme Green has always held a high opinion of Master Jamie and believes the gelding’s first city win indicates he can measure up in stronger company.
“The key to him is not to miss the start. He was slow out a few times and although he still won in Rockhampton you just can’t afford to do that in Brisbane,” Green said.
Green was the track manager at Rockhampton before a stint training at Deagon for about five years.
He moved back to Rockhampton to train two years ago and Master Jamie has been the star of his team.
Green paid $10,000 for Master Jamie at the Magic Millions March sales and he has now won $240,000.
Green said Master Jamie may have been beaten at his two previous Brisbane starts but offered excuses for both defeats.
At his first city outing as a two-year-old, Master Jamie finished third to Vincere Volare at Doomben in November, 2018.
Returning a year later for his next attempt tp break his city duck, Master Jamie was trapped wide when seventh to Le Palmier in the Winning Rupert at Doomben.
“In both starts in Brisbane he sat back on the gates,” Green said.
“He will probably be back in Brisbane for a three-year-old event in two weeks before having a freshen-up with the Gold Coast QTIS race (March 15) in mind.
“It looks perfect for him and it is worth $300,000.”
