Trainer Michael Trotter hopes Lindelani can replicate the deeds of her dam with success in the VRC St Leger at Flemington.
Restricted to three-year-olds, the VRC St Leger over 2800m on Saturday, is one of the oldest races on the Australian racing calendar.
Lindelani's dam Inkster won the event in a dead-heat with Moment In Time in 2008.
Trotter followed the career of Inkster from the time the then three-year-old filly won her maiden race at Moe in 2007.
Saddling up his first starter as a trainer, Trotter watched Inkster defeat his charge that day.
Trotter began thinking of Saturday's Listed race after Lindelani scored at Werribee in December before she confirmed those aspirations with a last-start second at Sandown.
He said he also considered Saturday's week's Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville but felt the longer distance was a better fit.
“She got stuck in an awkward spot last time and got shuffled back which probably cost her the race in the end,” Trotter said.
“She was finding the line really nicely at the end, especially her last 100 metres which was really impressive.
“After looking at the way she has performed in that last start over 2100 metres, we thought it best to skip the 2000 metre option of the Oaks.
“We can then look to Adelaide after Saturday, the South Australian Fillies Classic which is over 2500 metres, three weeks after the St Leger.”
The South Australian Fillies Classic was previously known as the South Australian Oaks and in 2008 Inkster ran in that race, finishing third to her Mick Price-trained stablemate Queen Of Queens, before going onto St Leger success.
“That also encourages us to go this way,” Trotter said.
“We think she has inherited her mother's lungs and has that nice turn of foot provided by her father (Turffontein), so hopefully it works out on Saturday.”
The St Leger has attracted 19 nominations including Victoria Derby winner Warning who also holds an entry in the Peter Armytage Handicap (1700m) and the Chairman's Stakes (2035m) at Morphettville.
Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare features among nominations for Saturday's meeting as one of 26 entries in the William Newtown VC Handicap (2600m).
Trainer Danny O'Brien has Vow And Declare, a last-start ninth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on April 11, aimed at the Andrew Ramsden Stakes (2800m) at Flemington next month.
