Jamie Kah, regarded by many as the best jockey in Australia at the moment, brought up her 1000th career win when steering home the smart Bermadez in a race-to-race double at Pakenham on Wednesday.
She had brought up her 999th success aboard Kurubai in the penultimate event on the card and did not have to wait long to tick over to four figures, keeping Bermadez’s unbeaten record intact in the process.
Melbourne’s leading jockey bought up the milestone just a few days after her five-star effort at Caulfield on Saturday afternoon.
“You think you’d ride a couple of hundred in your career and you’d never get to 1000, so this is pretty special,” a cheerful Kah said.
She went on to reveal that her future mother-in-law was the one to make her aware of the impending milestone on Tuesday after Kah and her fiance, Clayton Douglas, combined for a trainer/jockey double at Mornington on Tuesday.
The South Australian native has now spent the best part of two years as one of the top jockeys in Melbourne and ranks alongside the likes of Craig Williams and Damien Oliver as one of the most sought-after hoops in the industry.
From just under 700 rides in the past 12 months, Kah has a strike rate of almost 21 per cent, with almost 50 per cent of her rides finishing in the top three.
With Group 1 success aboard Nature Strip in the Lightning Stakes and The Cascadian in the Doncaster Handicap, her past three months have arguably been the best of her career.
Kah has five Group 1 wins to her name already and will look to add to that tally when she partners Instant Celebrity on Saturday afternoon in The Goodwood as a $7 chance.
