Dettori and Gosden can deliver on Lingfield All-Weather

Racing Online - Horse Racing News - United Kingdom Horse Racing News - Dettori and Gosden can deliver on Lingfield All-Weather

has ridden 43 winners from only 126 starts on the All- over the last five , so his mounts in the two Listed races for fillies at Lingfield on Thursday are worth close inspection. He rides both horses for his boss,

Dettori is on two double-figure runners who offer some each-way value, and the double on (14.45) and Jane Marple (15.45) pays +16800 at the current early prices. At one-fifth the odds, the place element for a top-three finish in each race is over +1000.

The veteran now rations his rides and mainly focuses on the Group races and lucrative handicaps. A trip to Lingfield for a midweek meeting at the end of October is rare. Indie Angel and Jane Marple are both trained by Gosden, who is selective with his AW runners.

His only entries at Lingfield this week contest the two Class 1 races for fillies with a first prize of £21,408. Gosden usually dines at the top table, so him bringing horses to Lingfield could be a tip in itself. However, on form and ratings Indie Angel and Jane Marple have something to find.

It's unusual for Dettori to ride two +1200 shots for his boss. His All-Weather rides since the start of 2016 have made a small level-stakes loss. His rides are short in the betting as he has to justify missing opportunities on turf and other commitments.

Gosden's AW strike rate over the last five years is a healthy 28%. It's worth noting that he is not afraid of running his good prospects on sand. The maiden fillies' stakes at Newcastle in November 2016 is a perfect illustration.

The Class 5 race for juvenile fillies that day was the first start for . She was sent off at +350, which in retrospect was the bet of the century. Two subsequent AW starts produced two wins and a 100% record. The recently retired Enable earned over £10 million in win-and-place prize money.

Indie Angel and Jane Marple won't be winning two Arcs, and even making the frame at Lingfield looks a big ask. The races have attracted much better horses, but the Gosden and Dettori entries could both still sneak a place at a decent combined price. Some punters will back them blindly so could land a nice place double.

Cloak Of Spirits is top rated and the favourite for Indie Angel's race. Three-year-olds receive three pounds from older horses for the one-mile contest. Indie Angel gets that allowance and has winning experience on an All-weather surface, while Cloak of Spirits ventures off turf for the first time.

If a Gosden runner at Lingfield is rare, a horse from the Aidan O'Brien stable is a collector's item. He sends the favourite, , for Jane Marple's race over one mile and five furlongs. Both horses are aged three so receive the weight-for-age allowance.

Gosden and Dettori have teamed up to win the Arc, Derby and many races.  The rewards and prestige from the Lingfield races this week are much lower, but punters who combine them in a double will be happy if Indie Angel and Jane Marple make the payout places.
