Jockey Daniel Stackhouse is committed to adhering to a strict diet this week to reach the weight of 53 kilograms for his continued partnership with Jason Warren‘s standout performer, Benedetta, in the upcoming Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield.
Having previously achieved a weight as low as 51.5kg for his ride on Daqiansweet Junior in last year’s Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), Stackhouse acknowledged the demanding nature of Saturday’s weight, emphasizing the need for disciplined efforts throughout the week.
“It’s more of a food thing, I am pretty fit, but you keep training and try and do a kilo every day,” Stackhouse explained to Racing.com.
“I normally have a coffee in the morning, an apple if I am hungry then some boiled eggs and some protein meals because then you need to know how much is going into you.”
He detailed his fitness routine, stating, “I go to the gym, do a lot of running and then on the treadmill with a really high incline, and I’ll probably leave the sweat gear until the last minute.
“You know what your body can do and chip away at it.”
