He wasn’t and Winx picked him up to win by two lengths, recording her 22nd Group One win, her 29th straight victory and a record in unlikely to be bettered.

“I can’t believe it,” Bowman said.

“I really felt the pressure this week – more than I have before.

“The build-up of electricity that came through my body when I turned into the straight,I can’t describe.

“Everyone watching gets so much out of this wonderful horse.

“The fact she has been able to do it so many times. I can’t say much more.

“I’m so proud to be a part of this and so lucky to come across such an athlete.

“She’s apples.”

Trainer diverted attention to his staff who look after Sydney’s biggest stable but conceded the mare had of place.

“They all do great jobs – not just with Winx,” he said.

“This is pretty special. I can’t say much more. I’m gassed – the horse has got more petrol than me.”

Last year’s runner-up ran 2-3/4 lengths behind Benbatl while one-time favourite was pulled out of the race early.
