Winx Talk Of The Town Ahead Of Retirement

Racing Online - Horse Racing News - Winx Talk Of The Town Ahead Of Retirement

The most stylish of Sydney's autumn racing won't be a fascinator or the latest must-have pair of shoes but instead a spot trackside as champion racehorse Winx runs for the final time.

showcased the latest in autumn racing fashions on Wednesday, at the kind of event where horses typically take a back seat, but the hottest topic of the day was Winx.

“It just goes to show the impact this horse has on every single Australian,” Jesinta Franklin said.

“Her sheer determination and strength, I think a lot of people draw inspiration from that … and to think that an animal can bring a country together and we all want to cheer for her and everyone wants her to win.”

As the seven-year-old prepares to attempt her 33rd straight win – hot off the heels of a Vogue photo shoot – part owner Peter Tighe was pragmatic about what makes the mare so loveable.

“Just that winning streak,” he laughed to AAP.

“I think everybody likes a winner and she keeps winning and does it in such a style that makes it fairly dramatic.

“She gives (people) a bit of hope – she's many things to many different people but to each person she's something special.”

Despite being two weeks out from retiring one of the most successful horses of all time Mr Tighe says he's not sad – with motherhood next on the agenda for Winx.

“We've got more to play out,” he said.

“It's got to end sooner or later. We're just happy that she provides the entertainment for so many people from so many different walks of life.”
