Australian apprentice bagged his first winner on Friday afternoon, steering the -trained to victory in a Benchmark 66 at .

In only his eighth career race ride, Wadick gave his mount every chance by taking him straight to the front, allowing the three-year-old Nicconi gelding to skip clear and head to the outside fence on the Heavy 9 surface to hold off his rivals by three-quarters of a length.

Formeinaway now has two wins and two runner-up finishes from five career starts, and the victory was made all the more special for Wadick as his mother strapped the horse and legged him up prior to the race.

“Yeah I mean it couldn't be any better,” Wadick told .

“To get the win for the boss, Mark Newnham, but also for my mum strapping the horse over there.

“It's good' it's a great feeling and to finally get the win, that's good.”

After jumping well from barrier seven, Wadick used his 4kg claim to his and really started to put a gap on the second horse before the home straight, which was a winning move in the end.

“At the top of the straight I thought I had put enough on them for him to keep going,” he said.

“When he kept going and going and going … the line got closer and the feeling got better.

“There's no feeling like it.”

The 18-year-old only just missed out on a win in his first race ride on May 23rd aboard Shadow Colour when beaten only a third of a length to run third, so he admits it was great to repay his master with a win on Friday.

“Every horse he's put me on, he's given me a good chance,” Wadick said.

“Unfortunately, you know, some disappointing results, but he continues to give me opportunities and I'm grateful for it.”
