European import Via Sistina maintains her position as the top contender, priced at +140, for Saturday’s Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick after securing barrier five out of 11 in the weight-for-age Group 1.
Trained by Chris Waller, the mare impressed with an easy victory in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) during her Australian debut last month, ridden by James McDonald, who retains the mount for this weekend’s race.
Pride Of Jenni, winner of the All-Star Mile (1600m), has drawn barrier three, while Cascadian, Godolphin‘s recent Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) victor, will start from gate six.
“He’s a remarkable, outstanding racehorse. To do what he’s done and what he’s achieved over a period of time… he’s been competing at the highest level all the way through since he came to Australia,” commented Godolphin representative Darren Beadman on the nine-year-old.
“He’s giving everyone a lot of cheek… he certainly doesn’t show his age, he’s such a competitor and a team favourite for everyone.”
