Australian Oaks runner-up Scarlet Dream is pressing on for a Brisbane campaign with the Group One Queensland Oaks and possibly the Derby on the agenda.
The Mark Newnham-trained filly finished just under two lengths behind Verry Elleegant in the Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick at her most recent start on April 13 and she will have a barrier trial at Warwick Farm on Friday in preparation for her Brisbane targets.
Newnham said the Group Two The Roses (2000m) at Doomben on May 18 would be Scarlet Dream’s first Brisbane race with Blake Shinn to retain the ride.
“All going well she will run in the Oaks then and then possibly the Derby,” Newnham said.
The Queensland Oaks (2200m) is on June 1 at Doomben, a week before the Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm.
Newnham said Scarlet Dream had come through her Oaks run at Randwick well.
“It was only her fourth run in,” he said.
“She’s very fit but she will have that trial on Friday to keep her ticking over and then she will head up there a couple of days before The Roses.”
