Robbie Fradd Has Rare Ride For Ben Currie

Racing Online - Horse Racing News - Robbie Fradd Has Rare Ride For Ben Currie

In-form jockey Robbie Fradd will have a rare ride for trainer Ben Currie on former French galloper Kay Kay Boy at Doomben.

Kay Kay Boy will join other Currie-trained runners Cantbuybetter, to be ridden by Brett Prebble, and Honey Toast, with Jeff Lloyd on board, in Saturday’s Listed Bernborough Handicap (1600m).

The entire is the first imported European horse trained by Currie and has won four races in Australia.

Although still a restricted class horse, Kay Kay Boy was heavily backed to win the Brisbane Handicap three weeks ago.

But he was caught in a speed battle for the lead and stopped in the straight to finish fifth, beaten almost four lengths.

Currie believes with a better run Kay Kay Boy can be competitive in the Bernborough.

Adelaide jockey Jamie Kah rode Kay Kay Boy in the Brisbane Handicap with Fradd to take over on Saturday.

Fradd has been in superb form since returning from a successful stint in Mauritius with 10 winners in three weeks.

“For Kay Kay Boy to finish as close as he did last time was a very good effort,” Currie said.

“Prioritise was the other horse with him early and he dropped out but has since raced well.”

Currie believes Fradd’s experience in big races will help Kay Kay Boy who has the minimum weight of 54kg.

The trainer has stuck with Toowoomba jockey Nozi Tomizawa for Magic Millions 2YO Classic hopeful Mishani Spirit in the B J McLachlan Plate at the Doomben.

Mishani Spirit made it two wins from two starts when a first-up winner at the Gold Coast last Saturday week with Tomizawa aboard the filly in both her impressive wins over 1050m and 900m.

“She is out to 1200 metres on Saturday and I am keen to see how she handles the extra trip,” Currie said.

Mishani Spirit is an $11 chance in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic on January 12 at the Gold Coast with Dubious and Unite And Conquer heading the market at $5.
