Connections of Wild Planet will consider their options after the three-year-old who holds a Caulfield Guineas nomination claimed a Listed race win at Flemington.
Wild Planet was posted three-wide in Saturday’s Antler Luggage Stakes (1400m) before narrowly beating the luckless Ranier who got clear inside the final 100m before charging home to be beaten by a head.
Wild Planet is entered for next Saturday’s $2 million Caulfield Guineas but co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said he was unsure what was next.
“We’ll give him a nice couple of quiet days because it was a hard run today,” Hawkes said.
“I don’t know yet.
“He’s still in the Caulfield Guineas next Saturday but I don’t know whether you’d be backing up after running that hard today.
“But you never know.
“The Carbine Club Stakes here at Flemington (is an option) and we might put him in the paddock and bring him back for an Australian Guineas yet.”
Jockey Dwayne Dunn believes there was plenty of merit to Wild Planet’s performance.
“Everything went wrong and he was still able to win which is fantastic,” Dunn said.
“He was three-wide no cover and not many can do that around here. He’ll get better with racing too.”
