Godolphin-owned filly Lyre already has a Group One win at Caulfield to her name and is building up for a spring campaign with another major target in mind at the same track.
The Blue Diamond Stakes winner has been back in work at Anthony Freedman‘s Pinecliff stable for a couple of weeks.
“The Thousand Guineas is her target at this stage, if she can stay a mile (1600m),” Freedman’s son and assistant trainer, Sam Freedman, said.
‘”We’ll probably find out how she goes in a Prelude or something, whether she sees out 1400 metres.
“And if she doesn’t you’d probably look to drop back in distance to a Coolmore (Stud Stakes) or something like that.”
Lyre won three of her five starts during her juvenile season including the Group Two Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude (1100m) and Group One Blue Diamond (1200m), both at Caulfield.
She was given a spell after finishing third in the Group One Golden Slipper in Sydney in March.
“She’s been back in for just over two weeks and the riders couldn’t be happier with her,” Freedman said.
“She’s ticking all the boxes and everything is on track.
“She’ll start some pace work next week.
“She has strengthened right up, put on a lot of muscle. They’ve done a really good job with her out at the farm at Godolphin.
“She looks really well and she’s moving well.”
Stablemate Meuse, unbeaten in two starts, is also likely to embark on a Thousand Guineas campaign.
“She will look to target the Thousand Guineas but she’s probably still six months away from her best,” Freedman said.
“She’s got scope to probably get over further and possibly out to 2000 metres, but she needs to learn to relax as well.”
Freedman said fellow rising three-year-olds I Am Immortal, Chenier and Super Seth, all colts, were also at similar early stages of their build-ups.
I Am Immortal, who won the colts and geldings Blue Diamond Preview and Prelude before being unplaced in the Blue Diamond, will target the major sprint races for three-year-olds.
