It could be the case of after the Lord Mayor's Show, but for Uttoxeter racecourse, Saturday is its biggest day of the season because the Midlands Grand National takes place at the track.

Just Your Type has the highest Racing Post Rating (RPR) and can win Staffordshire's most important horse race. That outcome is +2000 with Ladbrokes. The race is a test of stamina run over four miles and two furlongs and there are 32 fences. It is one of the longest races of the season.

Uttoxeter's standout meeting takes place the day after the Cheltenham Festival. However, the world keeps turning (or not if coronavirus gets worse) and the Midlands version of the Grand National has a prize fund of £150,000.

There are 14 declared runners which is two short of the field, that brings into place terms of one quarter the odds for four places. Most bookmakers are settling each way bets at one fifth the odds for the first four but some only offer three payout places.
Here are some 10-year betting trends for one of the oldest Nationals of the year because this version has been run since 1969:

• The average Starting Price of the winner: over +1300.
• Range of winner's SP's: +600 to +2500.
• Number of favourites: 1.
• Number of double-figure odds: 6.
• Four winners from +600 to +750.

There are no multiple winners in the history of the race. Four jockeys have won it twice. The leading trainer is David Pipe with four wins from 2011 to 2014, with four different horses. Only two winners this century have carried more than 11 stone.

Over the same spell only one winning horse has been aged 10 or older. The most common age for the winner is nine with seven wins. Big Occasion was aged six when prevailing for Pipe in 2013 so that horse is the youngest winner in race history.

The ante post favourite for the Midlands Grand National at the time of writing is Christmas In April, at around the +500 mark. Six horses are on offer between that price and +1000. The current market leader achieved a career-high RPR of 143 in his last run at Exeter. The race was run on heavy ground over three miles and six and a half furlongs.

Christmas in April won the race with something in hand carrying 11 stone six pounds but carries one stone less in this better race. Richard Johnson takes the ride for Coin Tizzard and the champion jockey won the race in 2014 but this is a tough ask.

De Rasher Counter will have plenty of support because the horse won the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury in November. The race that was formerly called the Hennessy is one of the most prestigious staying handicaps chases of the season and often provides pointers for future Cheltenham Gold Cups and Grand Nationals. De Rasher Counter is the top weight on Saturday but a claiming jockey takes off three pounds. The horse has been raised 16 pounds and is now not racing off a winnable mark.

Just Your Type has been allocated 10 stones and three pounds and could be a blot on the handicap. The horse produced a RPR of 146 in a race at Exeter last January. He was well in command when falling at the second last fence. Just Your Type carried 10 stone and 12 pounds and in effect is a winner without a handicap.

The horse's form has dipped in six subsequent starts and he was pulled up last time out at Wetherby in February. If Just Your Type shows his best form, he is the selection for the 2020 Midlands Grand National.
