Joe Pride Hoping Superium Can Rebound

Joe will try to salvage Superium’s campaign after his enforced scratching from a major summer target.

Superium was withdrawn from the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas at the last Saturday week when Queensland veterinary stewards ruled on race eve his action was not satisfactory.

The decision rankled his trainer but Pride has entered him to run in an 800m-barrier trial at on Tuesday and a 1400m-handicap at Randwick on Saturday.

“My vet cleared him when he got back,” Pride said.

“He had an easy week after the trip up to Queensland and back.”

Stablemate Passage Of Time will also run over 1400m at the meeting as he strives for a first feature win in the Listed for which 21 nominations have been taken.

Queenslander Crack Me Up on 105 is the highest rated horse among the entries with on 104 and Passage Of Time, and Redouble all on 102.

Crack Me Up and Wu Gok are also among the nominations for the Listed Cup at Caloundra over the same distance.

At his most recent start on January 11, Passage Of Time finished fourth in a 1200m-race at Randwick won by who is among the Carrington entries.

Before that fourth, Passage Of Time dominated over 1400m to beat Smartedge and Redouble.

Pride admitted in recent weeks he had perhaps been a little easier on his horses in track work because of the smoke haze from bushfires around the state.

“I think I have probably been a little more gentle with the horses,” Pride said.

“It doesn’t seem to have affected them too much.”

Pride will head to this week for the Sale hoping to pick up some stoutly bred yearlings.

“The Magic Millions was a hard sale but I came away with a nice So You Think filly,” he said.

“I’m heading to New Zealand this week. It is a great breeding ground.”
