Barb Raider is now third-favourite for next Saturday’s Queensland Oaks after her courageous $250,000 The Roses victory at Eagle Farm today.
After holding a good position for the duration of the 2100m stayers’ feature, Craig Williams held his nerve aboard the three-year-old filly when she had challengers on either side of her deep onto the straight.
They were Belle Savoir and Smirk, who finished a respective second and third for Nick Ryan and Chris Waller.

Barb Raider’s excellent win now has her into $7 with Ladbrokes for the Queensland Oaks at the same venue next Saturday.
And Williams cannot wait for that Group 1 feature worth $700,000 over 2200m.
He believes he will partner up with a genuine chance, now third in markets with online betting sites behind Gypsy Goddess ($3 for David Vandyke) and Aravene ($6 for Caroline Jennings).
“Most importantly she was in front when it counted. (Trainer) Jerome Hunter has done a marvellous job with her,” Williams told Sky Racing.
“And the owners have given him the confidence to train the horse he wants to in order to get that Group 1 win for them.
“That’s why she’s here seven days before the main target. I could feel she benefited from that competition going into the main race.
“I think she’s only going to springboard off this performance.
“Fantastic (Williams’ thoughts on the Good 4 track).”
