On Wednesday morning, Racing NSW announced an increase in prizemoney for the Group 1 All Aged Stakes to A$1.5 million from $600,000.
The 1600m feature is set to be run on April 15 at Royal Randwick, and this boost in prizemoney is sure to attract runners coming out of races on Day 1 of The Championships.
Some genuine stars of the track have graced the race’s honour roll over the years, including the likes of Sunline, All Too Hard, Dissident, English and Cascadian.
“This increase in prizemoney better recognises the strength of the race and its importance in our racing calendar,” said Racing NSW Chairman Russell Balding.
“Racing for $1.5 million in prizemoney also makes it even more attractive for horses from sprinters to milers alike and will be further targeted by trainers, at the conclusion of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.”
It is hoped that runners coming out of the Doncaster Mile on Day 1 of The Championships will push on to compete in the All Aged, especially if connections opt to chase the Group 1 features in South Australia or Queensland later in the year.
