Warrnambool-based trainer Matt Williams is optimistic about his star mare, Wrote To Arataki, aiming for back-to-back victories in Saturday’s Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m).
The five-year-old secured the same title last year and further enhanced her credentials with a triumph in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in October.
Williams shared insights into the mare’s preparation, stating, “She’s just had the one trial, so there should be a bit of improvement to come.
“She’s coming off that short break where she went pretty deep into the spring, so there’s not a lot of turnaround time there, so there’s a bit of natural fitness still under her belt.”
He added, “Last week she had a little jump-out at Warrnambool and came through that well, and she had a gallop on the grass this morning, and all reports suggest she came through that well, so she should be there to take her spot.”
