Lord Gododdin did his early racing in where he won three times before being bought to come to Australia as a possible open company stayer.

Waller had given Gododdin four starts in Australia before the Gadens Handicap (2000m) on Saturday.

Lord Gododdin ($4.60) proved too strong in the final 100m to beat ($6) by a short neck with three-quarters of a length to ($2.40) in third place.

Waller's manager Paul Shailer said Lord Gododdin had improved with each run in Australia.

“He was a good second at Caloundra at his previous start and he lived up to that here. Chris has taken his time with him but Lord Gododdin might have a bit of future,” Shailer said.

“Lord Gododdin will stay up here for a while as there is really a race every week for his style of horse.

“He is by top staying sire Camelot so he should have no trouble getting further.”

Winning said Lord Gododdin had been suited by a strong early pace and had found plenty when asked for in the straight.
