Two Victorian jockeys have been suspended after pleading guilty to placing bets on thoroughbred races.

Daniel Schmitt and John Robertson were each handed suspensions by the on Thursday.

Schmitt was charged by Racing stewards with placing 71 bets on thoroughbred races between January 2016 and September 2018 totalling $2050 while Robertson placed 27 bets during an 18-month period before April 2018.

Neither bet on races they were riding in.

It is a breach of the rules for a jockey, or apprentice jockey, to bet, have any interest in or facilitate a bet on any race.

Schmitt was suspended until the end of the current racing season while Robertson was suspended for three months with six weeks suspended on the condition he undertakes counselling for a gambling problem.

The pair join apprentice who earlier this month was suspended for four weeks after placing six bets, totalling $49.
