Despite a setback that sidelined him from the opening day of the Hawke's Bay spring , is now set for a belated attempt at a top-flight title.

Trainer and part-owner Alby MacGregor had initially planned to run Times Ticking in the (Group 1, 1400m), but a foot issue forced a change of plans.

However, Times Ticking has shown positive signs in lead-up trials and is ready for Saturday's Group 1 Plate (1600m) at .

MacGregor shared his thoughts on Times Ticking's condition, saying, “He's just starting to lose his coat a bit now and he's looking good. It's the old story, he's very, very well at the moment and if you're not in you'll never know.”

Times Ticking had an impressive autumn campaign, winning both the Group 3 (2000m) and the Listed Easter Cup (1600m) at .

However, his winter preparation faced a setback at Wanganui when he suffered a heart fibrillation and finished at the back of the field in the Listed (1600m).

Regarding the heart fibrillation issue, MacGregor explained, “I've never had that ever before with a horse, I have heard about it plenty of times and he is fine now.”

Times Ticking has recovered well and demonstrated his form in trials, guided by Lisa Allpress.

MacGregor also expressed confidence in Times Ticking's adaptability to different track conditions, given his successful history on both firm and heavy surfaces. “I'm not worried about it at all, he'll be enjoying that track,” he remarked.

Looking ahead, if Times Ticking performs well on Saturday, MacGregor has his sights set on the Group 3 Coupland's Bakeries Mile (1600m) in Christchurch.

However, he emphasized that plans would depend on the horse's form and how he fares in upcoming races.

Times Ticking has enjoyed success at Riccarton in the past, and MacGregor makes his southern racing ventures a family affair, staying with his son Dean in Rangiora, with grandson Matthew, an apprentice blacksmith, often assisting with strapping duties.
