Mornington trainer Shane Bottomley has been suspended and fined over the disposal of a dead horse.

Bottomley faced the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Tuesday to answer two Racing Victoria stewards' charges, one of giving false or misleading evidence and one of misconduct, improper conduct or unseemly behaviour.

Three-year-old filly Comanderbrae Bonny died at Bottomley's stable on June 21 this year after which the trainer made false statements to a senior advisor in RV's dispute resolution and mediation services department.

Bottomley told the adviser he got a knackery to take the horse away and said she had died from a twisted bowel.

In fact, Bottomley performed his own autopsy to ascertain the cause of death without the consent of the filly's owner before burning the carcass in a bonfire.

Bottomley pleaded guilty to both charges.

He was given a three-month suspension and fined $6000.
