In a very quick edition of the Inglis Nursery, Saltaire has beaten the odds-on favourite, Facile, in a ding-dong battle in the last 200m, with the former getting her head down on the line to take out the $500,000 two-year-old feature.

John O'Shea has won his second Inglis Nursery in six years after winning his first with Hong Kong Bet in 2017, while star hoop, Kerrin McEvoy has also won his second Nursery.

At they usually do, the two-year-olds ran the 1000m in very quick time, with the favourite and runner-up, Facile, leading from The Little Pumper and Dissneck, before the winner got off the rail and was too strong in the last 50m.

John O'Shea spoke post-race after winning the Nursery, with this daughter of Star Turn.

“To be fair the Newcastle form must be alright because Michael's (Freedman) horse got trapped wide and ran very well as well in the race so if you go to Newcastle and think it's going to be an easy race, there is no easy race in NSW,” O'Shea said.

“I worked her with Waihaha Falls on Tuesday. It was indicative of how much confidence we had in her.

“I said to Kerrin (McEvoy) today she is ready to rock and roll. Don't muck around with her and he rode her beautifully as he always does.”

Kerrin McEvoy has won this race twice in the last four years, after winning on Wild Ruler in 2019.

“I rode her on Tuesday morning. John had been pleased with her since that gritty run at Newcastle running some slick time,” McEvoy said post-race.

“She got through, got her nose through the gap and then coasted nicely when the favourite was wilting the last bit.”

O'Shea and McEvoy both agreed that this filly would be much better after a break when she returns in the autumn.
