Promising two-year-old has turned his much-anticipated clash with first starter into a one-act affair and earned himself a crack at stakes class.

Rothfire had won his first start but was sent out a $2.80 chance on the strength of heavy backing for colt Wisdom Of Water ($1.70) in the QTIS Two-Year-Old (1000m) at .

But after clearing out from the rest of the field, Rothfire cruised past Wisdom Of Water in the straight and went on to win by six lengths to Married To The Mob ($14) with a short neck to ($13) in third place.

Wisdom Of Water stopped in the straight to finish fourth and Robbie Fradd said the colt was immature.

Rothfire ran 57.13 for the 1000m which took almost a second off the class record.

Trainer has high hopes for Rothfire who was a “cheap buy” from the Gleeson Thoroughbreds operation.

“He might be something a bit special. He isn't a horse but I might have crack at some of the summer two-year-old features up here,” Heathcote said.

Rothfire is in most markets but Heathcote warned the gelding had not been nominated for the race.

Winning jockey also has a big opinion of Rothfire and is keen to stick with him.

“It is rare to get on a two year old who is so calm,” Byrne said.
