Caloundra filly Red Stiletto shrugged off her reputation for being lazy and earned herself a Magic Millions 2YO Classic start with her win at Doomben.

Trainer David Vandyke wasn't surprised when Red Stiletto ($12) was last early in the QTIS Two-Year-Old (1200m.)

However, Vandyke was pleasantly surprised when Red Stiletto charged home to beat Way Beyond ($2.90) by a length.

Vandyke explained he only ran Red Stiletto when he was disappointed with her recent trial.

“She has been lazy and it was no surprise when she was last early. But I knew she had ability and she showed it with her finish,” Vandyke said.

“Red Stiletto was going to have another trial but I saw this race and thought it was a good race to try her at 1200m.”

The filly cost $120,000 at the Magic Millions and will now be set for the 2YO Classic in January 11.

“She will be improved out of sight for that run and why not go to the Millions,” Vandyke said.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick will reassess the Millions plans for Way Beyond who looked unlucky after being held up for a run in the straight.

“I don't think he has enough money to make the Millions race so we will have to have a rethink,” Kendrick said.

“He really is a 1600m horse and to have a chance at 1200m he needs to be fresh.”
