Uncertainty over coronavirus restrictions has delayed the announcement of Racing Victoria’s full racing calendar for next season.
RV last week said there would be no change to the spring carnival program of races and on Friday delivered the country dates for first five months of the 2020-21 season.
Traditionally, the 12-month schedule of race dates would have been released for the upcoming racing season, but further consultation is needed between RV and the race clubs.
Picnic and non-TAB meetings have been programmed from October, however a decision will be made closer to each event if they go ahead.
The AFL grand final date will determine when the Benalla and Coleraine Cups are run.
Greg Carpenter, RV’s executive general manager of racing, said the controlling body had decided against making wholesale changes to the race dates for the remainder of the year.
“We are confident that our racing program will continue to attract the very best horses, trainers and jockeys to Victoria which will help drive strong wagering and engagement results,” Carpenter said.
