Problem Solver will be given her chance to add to an already enviable Magic Millions record after a surprise win at Wyong.
Winning for only the second time in a 12-start career, Problem Solver claimed the scalp of well-credentialled mare Invincible Star in the Magic Millions Wyong 3YO & 4YO Stakes.
The $100,000 race for graduates of Magic Millions sales was expected to be dominated by Invincible Star, a Group One placegetter.
But she was no match when it counted as Problem Solver swept past the last-start Sydney winner with a minimum of effort.
Invincible Star finished in the minor placing in a result that took the Gerald Ryan by surprise.
“We were genuinely thinking she could run second but the favourite’s had an off day,” Ryan’s son Blake said.
“She’s a nice mare who has done every right so it’s nice to get a result.”
The win is Problem Solver’s second in the Magic Millions race series following her victory in the $250,000 maiden race that is part of a $10 million raceday at the Gold Coast.
Her return for next month’s extravaganza will involve a significantly richer purse than 12 months ago with Problem Solver directed towards the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares over 1300m.
Ridden by Josh Parr, Problem Solver ($6) defeated Bondi ($7.50) by 1-1/4 lengths with Invincible Star ($1.50) three-quarters of a length away third.
