Mick Price and Damien Oliver have combined for a Flemington stakes race double with Oregon’s Day taking out the Frances Tressady Stakes.
The pair combined earlier on Saturday in the Bob Hoysted Handicap with She’s So High.
A drifter in betting, Oregon’s Day ($7.50) scored by a neck over $2.25 favourite Clarice Cliffs with Aristia ($14) a length away third.
Price said barrier one was instrumental in Oregon’s Day success.
“You can say beautiful ride but the seas parted and (Oliver) made full use of the run,” Price said.
“She did no work and was too good at the end.”
Price thought the mare may have been underdone ahead of Saturday’s return.
He said he hadn’t trained her hard in the lead-up as she has done a fair amount of racing.
“We were looking for a nice third or fourth so it’s great to get a win in a Group Three race and she’s now not far off winning $1 million prize money,” Price said.
Oregon’s Day is now Sydney-bound for the Group One Coolmore Classic at Rosehill on March 16 and the Coolmore Legacy at Randwick the following month.
“We’ll now go to Sydney and get the softer tracks,” Price said.
“She’s been a length or two off winning a Group One four or five times.
“She’s a class mare and I’m hoping she can fluke a Group One, one of these days.”
