Multiple Group One winning jockey Brett Prebble has had to wait an extra 10 minutes before claiming the early lead in the State of Origin Jockeys Series on Lucky Captain at Doomben.
The series is being run over five heats on Friday and Saturday for teams of jockeys from NSW, Queensland, Victoria, New Zealand, South Australia and Tasmania.
The time of the first heat was put back with some barrier problems but it made no difference to Prebble who produced a daring ride to steer Lucky Cap ($8) home a clear winner over favourite Kordon ($2.15) in Friday’s Class Two Plate (2240m).
He picked up five points for Victoria with Damian Browne getting three for New Zealand on Korodon and Corey Brown two for NSW on third placed The Barracuda ($9.50).
Prebble, who won the 2012 Melbourne Cup on Green Moon, returned to Australia this year after a glittering career in Hong Kong.
“It was a good win and he had them covered from the 250 metre mark,” Prebble said.
