's premier trainer believes Platinum Angel can bounce back from a last-start failure, pinpointing the mare as his best winning chance at the feature meeting.

Weir's big representation at Saturday's meeting on his home track includes six runners in the $350,000 Cup (2200m) while Platinum Angel will be joined by stablemate Golden Script in the $100,000 3&4YO Classic (1100m).

Platinum Angel was third in the Group Three at first-up this spring before being eased out of the Group Two at on October 6 over the final 300m.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be distressed and to have cardiac arrhythmia.

“She was going great going into that run and obviously that (cardiac arrhythmia) was the reason why she ran poorly,” Weir told RSN927.

“She had a couple of light weeks, just poking around, and she got real bouncy and well in again.

“She has trialled really well since.

“She will be ridden very conservative to be strong late and I think she's my best winning chance for the day.”

Weir has scratched last-start Flemington winner Top Prospect from the Ballarat Cup after he drew wide, leaving the trainer with six runners in the race.

Weir said Top Prospect would be saved for a suitable race at Moonee Valley on Saturday week.
