Tasmanian trainer Adam Trinder is keen to assess two-year-old filly in a winter race at ahead of a potential stakes race early in the new season.

Mystic Journey has won three of her four starts in Tasmania, setting an 1100m-track record at at her second start.

She won the Listed Elwick Stakes (1100m) at before suffering her only defeat when fourth, beaten less than a length in the Gold Stakes at Hobart over 1200m on February 28.

The filly is scheduled to travel from Tasmania to Melbourne on night to contest Saturday's 1200m-handicap for two-year-olds at Caulfield, with apprentice Mitch Aiken to claim 3kg off her 59kg.

Trinder will take Mystic Journey home again after the Caulfield run but if she performs well she is likely to return next month for the .

“The plan of attack is to run her and see where she fits in with the potential to return in a month's time for the Quezette Stakes at Caulfield,” Trinder said.

“We'll see on Saturday whether she's Melbourne level or whether she is better suited through the summer here in Tasmania.”

Trinder said Mystic Journey had the pedigree and demeanour to get over more ground but had shown precociousness early in her career at short distances.

“She has gone there and got the job done on multiple occasions and then was beaten a short margin in the Gold Sovereign but the race probably didn't work out ideally for her,” the trainer said.

“She has spelled, done well and had a jump-out and a trial leading into her return.

“It's an off-season run in the middle of winter but it will give us an assessment as to where she potentially lies in the broad scheme of things.”

Trinder said Mystic Journey was a low-key filly at home and flies under the radar.

“There's several two-year-olds that are better than her at home but she goes there and she get the job done,” he said.

Mystic Journey and last-start winner head the weights for the race which has attracted 37 nominations.
