Apprentice Michael Murphy‘s star continued to rise when he produced a perfect ride for his former master Chris Munce to win on Snoopy at Eagle Farm.
Murphy was originally apprenticed to Munce but has been with another Eagle Farm trainer Lindsay Gough for the past year.
However, it hasn’t stopped him riding work for Munce and he was rewarded with the ride on Snoopy who won his first race in Queensland since being sent north in May last year.
Snoopy ($3.30) sat in third place behind the two early leaders and shot clear in the straight before holding on to beat the favourite Star Reflection ($2.20).
It was Snoopy’s first win since scoring at Flemington in December 2016.
Munce said Snoopy had been racing well in much better company over the past nine months.
“We probably had him in a class which was above him but he continued to race well in them so we kept on,” Munce said.
“But today he was back in the right class and Michael gave him the perfect ride. Michael is a very good jockey but he has occasionally lost his way.”
“But he has been working hard in the past few months and he is getting the rewards.”
Snoopy is raced by a syndicate headed by one of Munce’s biggest clients in Max Whitby.
“It was a big week or Max at the Magic Millions sales and he has Snoopy’s dam (Oomph) so he is very happy,” Munce said.
