Last year’s Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) runner-up, Soulcombe, has encountered a setback in his racing journey, leading to the cancellation of his autumn campaign.
Trainer Chris Waller disclosed that the gelding developed swelling in one of his front legs, necessitating a period of rest.
“Soulcombe is unfortunately out of the autumn carnival due to having some swelling to his off-front leg which will require rest,” Waller stated.
“We will do our best to have him back for the spring but will take no risks and give him the relevant time required.”
Soulcombe, last seen finishing as the runner-up in the Melbourne Cup, and securing a third-place finish in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) during the previous spring, was anticipated to contend in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 30, where he was rated as the second favourite behind Mr Brightside.
