Group 1 Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Jye McNeil will be taking some time off after the true severity of an injury sustained during a fall at Cranbourne jumpouts six weeks ago came to light.
Despite being unaware of the extent of the damage, McNeil persevered and continued to ride until last month’s Mornington Cup meeting.
Thankfully, the 29-year-old won’t need surgery and is aiming for a comeback before the winter season.
With 71 winners under his belt this season, McNeil currently holds the seventh position on the Melbourne Jockeys’ Premiership leaderboard.
