McGillivray In Neck Brace After Race Fall

will be in a neck brace for a fortnight after a fall at the Sunshine Coast.

McGillivray was taken to hospital after falling from Bel Strider at the 150m in the sixth race on Wednesday night.

He was knocked unconscious and suffered facial and neck injuries.

Jockeys Association boss Glen Prentice said McGillivray remained in hospital on Friday but was expected to be at the weekend.

“He is walking around and hopeful of being allowed home shortly,” Prentice said.

“When he may be able to return to the saddle is unknown, he is still awaiting a full diagnosis.

“He will have to wear a neck brace for a week or two for head and neck stability.”

McGillivray had eight rides at Doomben on Saturday – including Pam O’Neill Stakes favourite who will now be ridden by .

He was also on Bellevue Hill in the Group Three who will have in the saddle.

Stewards have opened an inquiry into the fall but adjourned it until McGillivray is well enough to attend.

McGillivray was riding on a stay of a which would have allowed him to ride in the Group One next week.
