McDonald eyeing Moir Stakes return for Hayasugi

Clinton McDonald is optimistic that Group 1 winner Hayasugi can bounce back to her summer form and leave her Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) mishap in the past.

The filly received a “glowing report” from jockey Jamie Kah following a trial at Cranbourne.

“Jamie was really happy with her. [She] jumped away cleanly, which is important after her last race in the Slipper when she knuckled at the start,” McDonald told Racing.com regarding the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) winner.

“Jamie got off and gave a glowing report, so she’s come back in great order.” McDonald has his sights set on an elite-level return, outlining plans to kick off Hayasugi’s spring campaign.

“Trial again in two weeks’ time, then onto the Moir (Stakes),” the trainer revealed.
