Robbie Laing

says he now has his financial affairs in order ahead of a bid to get his trainer's licence restored.

A multiple Group One-winning trainer, Laing says that could be as early as next week when the Board meets and he hopes his application is considered and given the green light.

The -based horseman had his licence knocked back late last month after striking financial troubles.

He said he had used the time off to have a short break ahead of hopefully getting back to doing what he knows best, training racehorses.

Fellow Cranbourne trainer Tony Logan has permission to use the stables on an interim basis until Laing's return.

Laing said he had been preparing for a summer blitz before having his licence rejected almost two weeks ago.

“It was a bit disappointing because I had set myself up for a pretty good summer,” Laing said.

“I knew Pissaro had come up well, I knew Thorondor , , Explicitly, Tatiara, all city placegetters and winners first-up, were in for good campaigns.

“We put in a long, long dry winter, avoided the synthetic tracks, so we had them working, swimming, conditioned them up over winter to have them ready and then this raised it's ugly head.

“I've been in this game long enough and I mentor a lot of young trainers and if problems come up, I say let it go.

“I had to listen to my own words to some of these blokes, ‘just have a break', and that's what I've done.”
