Tony Gollan has made the decision to retire Group 1-winning mare Krone after a disappointing sixth-place finish in Monday's Group 3 Emancipation Stakes.
The six-year-old daughter of Eurozone took out the 2021 Coolmore Classic and was set to be retired after the Sydney Autumn Carnival, but after being purchased by Rosemont Stud, she was put back into work and aimed at the 2022 edition.
In her four runs this preparation, the AU$1.474 million earner failed to make her presence felt, finishing midfield in all four runs.
Gollan was the third trainer for Krone, who also spent time with Darren Weir as well as Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr.
Krone famously took out the 2021 Gold Coast Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Classic when a +4000 chance, slicing her way through the field to defeat the heavily backed Godolphin mare Athiri.
That win catapulted Krone into contention for higher-grade races, which saw her go to Sydney and win the Guy Walter Stakes and then the Coolmore.
The Queensland-based mare was prepared in a similar manner this time around, but her interest in racing was not at the same level it was 12 months ago.
Krone will retire with a 31:6-5-5 record and is set to be a broodmare for Rosemont Stud in Victoria.
