Jumps Rider Martin Kelly On Bets Charges

Jumps has been charged by stewards with betting offences and giving false or misleading evidence.

Stewards issued four charges to Kelly on Wednesday.

The first charge alleges between the start of January in 2016 to June 21 2016 Kelly made or had an interest in 47 bets on thoroughbred races utilising his betting account, with a outlay of $869.03.

None of those bets related to races Kelly rode in.

He has also been charged with betting in races he rode in on four occasions, including one on a rival runner.

Stewards allege Kelly placed, or had an interest in a $25 bet on Shearer who he rode in a race at Hamilton on May 30, 2016, as well as $25 on Gold Spur in the same race.

The particulars of the third charge is that between May 25, 2017 and November 9 last year Kelly made and/or facilitated a number of bets on thoroughbred races by authorising 59 deposits totalling $2405 into a betting account under the name of Wayne Cuddihy.

Stewards have also charged Kelly with giving false or misleading evidence in interviews with stewards earlier this year, when stating the bets placed on thoroughbreds on his betting account were not placed by him but by Cuddihy.

Cuddihy, a registered stable employee, has also been charged with giving false or misleading evidence to stewards.

A date for a hearing into the charges has yet to be fixed.
