Jockey Jamie Mott has been fined on a misconduct charge following a social media post that suggested he would flout racing’s whip rules.
Racing Victoria stewards on Thursday held an inquiry into a comment made by Mott on his Twitter account following the Sandown meeting on Wednesday.
In issuing a $1500 fine, stewards found Mott’s comments were inflammatory and had the potential for serious consequences.
Riding runner-up Muswellbrook at Sandown on Wednesday, Mott protested against the winner Caffrey for alleged interference over the final 100m.
During the hearing it was established Regan Bayliss, rider of Caffrey, had used the whip on nine occasions before the 100m mark.
While the protest was dismissed, Bayliss was hit with a seven-meeting careless riding suspension and a further $900 in whip-related fines.
Fellow jockey Mark Zahra was also suspended on Wednesday for seven meetings for overuse of the whip.
The bans come after Billy Egan was suspended for six meetings and fined $1500 for the same offence on dead-heater Plein Ciel at The Valley last Saturday.
