“It's fantastic. What a win. They don't normally do that,” Kent told Sky Racing, him and co-conditioner Mick Price combining for their sixth Group 1 triumph.

“But the speed was on and it kept flowing. The important thing was the horse broke well and got into a winning position.”

Jacquinot took a brilliant first-up win from the HDF McNeil Stakes (1200m) at on August 27 into Saturday.

“He was awesome first-up, and a real set play by Mick and the team to come up here second-up with a trial and keep the speed in his legs,” Kent said.

“He's not a robust horse, so I'm just delighted. It's fantastic.”

Kent and Price are now keen to set their star colt for the Group 1 on October 8.

“The plan before today was to go two weeks into the Caulfield Guineas. We've ticked the Group 1 box, so we'll just work out if that's the right thing for the horse,” Kent said.

“He'll be back on the truck to tomorrow and we'll make a call.”
