Imperatriz, at odds $4.00, displayed her dominance in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday afternoon, delivering a breathtaking performance that left her competition in awe.
Racing alongside the highly favored Giga Kick ($1.70) as they turned together with 150 metres to go, Imperatriz left her rivals in her wake, marking a stunning return from a spell.
Rothfire ($5.00) managed to overtake Giga Kick in the closing stages, relegating the 2022 Everest winner to third place in a race that will be remembered for the emergence of the rising star Imperatriz.

Ben Gleeson conveyed trainer Mark Walker‘s excitement and relief, stating, “Yeah, it’s a huge relief… Big credit to the team at home… the way she let down.”
Jockey Michael Dee, who stepped in for Opie Bosson, made the most of the opportunity and piloted Imperatriz to victory for the Te Akau team.
He praised the mare’s incredible turn of foot and expressed his desire to retain the ride on Imperatriz while lauding her performance.
“I was a little bit concerned when I saw Giga Kick come around,” admitted Dee.
“I know she’s got a great turn-of-foot… we hit the front almost within three or four strides… she’s probably the best I’ve ever felt.”
While the stable has not yet confirmed their pursuit of an Everest slot, Imperatriz is currently listed at $6.00 as a potential contender.
The more likely option appears to be the Group 1 Moir Stakes back at Moonee Valley on September 29, where she is the clear favorite at $2.25.
