Moroney won the Melbourne Cup with Brew in 2000, when a young apprentice by the name of Kerrin McEvoy guided the $14 shot to victory in the 3200m staying contest.
Brew also takes a unique place in Melbourne Cup history, having been the last horse to win the race from the outside draw, barrier 22.
Moroney, who trains out of Ballymore Stables in New Zealand and Flemington, also trained Emissary to a second-place in the 2022 Melbourne Cup, behind Gold Trip.
Moroney also trained Xcellent to third in the 2005 Melbourne Cup, when he finished behind champion Makye Diva, who was to win her third successive Cup that year.
