Group Two Light Fingers Likely For Funstar

While trainer Chris Waller has an anxious few days waiting for tests on star colt , the best filly in his stable is ready to race.

Funstar is likely to begin her campaign earlier than planned with Waller citing the Group Two Stakes on February 15 as a new starting point.

He was originally going to kick the Flight Stakes winner off in the Group One two weeks later but would like to get her up and running before she takes on New Zealand filly again.

Runner-up in the Flight, the Jamie Richards-trained Probabeel has already had two starts this year for two wins including the Karaka 3YO Classic.

“I might go to the Light Fingers. That horse from New Zealand, Probabeel, will probably be there (Surround) and she’ll be pretty forward,” Waller said.

“I shouldn’t worry about other horses having runs but she’s got so much speed and the Light Fingers is a pretty big race to have on the resume if you can win it.

“And it prepares you well for the Surround so we might just bring her forward two weeks from what I originally said.”

Yes Yes Yes, winner of the $14 million Everest and runner-up to Bivouac in the Group One , missed a scheduled race day gallop at on Saturday because of a leg issue.

The colt was found to have heat in his near fore leg and will be thoroughly vetted over the next couple of days to determine the cause and the shape of his autumn campaign.

He had been earmarked to take on stablemate in the Group One Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 15.

In his absence, had a solo work-out over 1000m ahead of his return in Saturday’s Group One C F at Caulfield.

The winner of the Group One Turnbull Stakes in spring, Kings Will Dream will be aimed at the Sydney after the Orr.

“He’s come back really well. He had a good prep last time in and won a Group One race,” Waller said.

“He will probably start his prep in Melbourne then come back up to Sydney for races like the Ranvet and Queen Elizabeth.”
