Randwick

RandwickSOME of Australia's best thoroughbreds are in action this Saturday at Randwick where the $1 million is the main highlight.

The Chris Waller-trained Press Statement is the odds-on favourite to win the feature mile and it's looking to take its career earnings over the $2 million mark.

Golden Slipper second favourite, Capitalist, is also in action. The Todman Stakes is a small, but select field of two-year-olds, which includes the unbeaten Astern. The colt shares similar racing tactics to Capitalist, but punters have sided with the Magic Millions winner.

The Canterbury Stakes is also on the card which Criterion, Kermadec, Our Boy Malachi and First Seal.

Race 1 – Reisling Stakes (1200m)

Rick Worthington lines up Widden Stakes winner Honesty Prevails which is the current $1.90 favourite. The Redoute's Choice filly won easily by 2.3 lengths over Smart Amelia, but it wasn't able to have that form franked with Smart Amelia running poorly last week. It looks well placed from a good draw and it will likely be well backed on the day.

John O'Shea lines up Calliope which was considered their best Blue Diamond chance, but it bypassed that and will run here instead. The two-year-old filly won the Gimcrack on debut by 1.8 lengths and it ran on nicely behind Samara Dancer in the Blue Diamond Prelude. The inside draw is a big plus and bookmakers have it safe in the market at $3.

On the third line of betting is Zelady's Night Out which couldn't keep up with them in the Magic Millions. The -trained filly was unbeaten in three starts prior and that form should stack up well for this. It will look to set the tempo in front and hold the challengers out. It does run into a couple of handy types, but there's an each way price of $8.50 available.

Race 1 tip: -Honesty Prevails to win ($1.90) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Todman Stakes (1200m)

John O'Shea lines up the unbeaten Astern which won the Silver Slipper in fine style last start. The talented colt showed good heart in winning last time out at Rosehill and that's a good trait to have as a two-year-old. It drops down slightly in weight for this and picked it as Godolphin's top chance. Could push the favourite close at $4.40 for the win.

Capitalist won the 2016 Magic Millions and did it easily, but this field has much more depth so we'll find out how good it really is. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt has won all three career starts and is the current second favourite behind Extreme Choice for the Golden Slipper. If it's going to win that, it will need to win this easily and punters seem to think it will. $1.75 with bookmakers.

Tessera is the second string Godolphin runner which is another unbeaten colt. The Medaglia D'oro colt beat a moderate field on debut at Randwick before winning again in the last start. That did come on a heavy track and conditions are meant to be dry this Saturday, so that does add some concern. Bowman takes the riding duties and it could run in the first three at $12.

Race 2 tip: Capitalist to win ($1.75) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 3 – Girvan Waugh Randwick Stakes (2000m)

Libran is a talented import which didn't have the best of luck last time out. The Chris Waller-trained gelding finished two lengths behind fellow import Arab Dawn in the Parramatta Cup and it should only continue to improve this season. The inside draw won't be an issue and the light weight of 54kg will suit once again as it carried 63kg in Europe to victory last year. Good chance at $4.40.

Allergic is a capable gelding which was blocked in the straight last start before flying home to finish second. The Street Cry gelding has a good record of five wins from 18 starts and it has plenty of fitness under its belt. It can handle all track conditions and punters have rallied behind its $3.30 win price. Looks a big danger once again.

Bohemian Lily is a classy mare which took on some tough fields last season. The Waterhouse-trained four-year-old ran on solidly behind Winx last start which is a good campaign starter and it has won and placed second up. It has the ability to set a nice pace and kick in the straight so consider in this at $6.00.

Race 3 tip: Libran to win ($4.40) at Bet365.com.au

Race 4 – City Ford Aspiration Quality (1600m)

Skyline Blush took on a tough field in the Millie Fox Stakes last start, but quick improvement is expected and a wet track might be needed to show its best. The Anthony Cummings-trained mare has won five times from seven starts on rain-affected ground and if there's moisture in the air its odds will tumble. $7.50 available for the win.

Heavens Above is a two-length last start winner which showed good ability last preparation. The four-year-old mare is having its fifth run this campaign which is a positive and it runs well on this track with a win and a placing. Its only horrible run came in the Queensland Oaks where it finished last, but it looks to have rebounded nicely. $3.50 favourite currently.

Alegria is becoming expensive for loyal punters after being backed at its last four starts and not winning any. The O'Shea-trained mare ran second last time out behind and that form is standing up nicely. It has been very close this preparation, but has been unable to win. Punters are now getting a better price at $6.50 which makes it an each way hope.

Race 4 tip: Heavens Above to win ($3.50) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 5 – Canterbury Stakes (1300m)

First Seal is the class runner of the field and it showed that by winning the Millie Fox Stakes last start. The John Thompson-trained mare takes on a tough field here and it would probably prefer a slightly longer distance, but bookmakers have rightfully made it favourite at $2.80 and we think it will have its best season to date.

Our Boy Malachi is a classy sprinter which resumed with a three-length win in the Expressway. That run has been franked with Solicit running second behind Winx and subsequently winning last start, and Our Boy Malachi put three lengths on it. It is unbeaten in two starts on this track and despite drifting from $3.00 to $3.30 in the betting, it remains a top chance.

Kermadec is fresh up after running 13th in the Cox Plate and it has performed well in two trials to prepare. The Chris Waller-trained horse has won over $2.7 million and even though this distance is short of its best, it should be respected in a small field. It likes Randwick and the $5.50 on offer suggests punters think it's some chance of knocking over the two favourites.

Race 5 tip: First Seal to win ($2.80) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 6 – Fireball Stakes (1100m)

King's Troop is only a one-win colt, but it's always well respect in betting markets and that's the case again for this. The Gerald Ryan-trained runner is the equal $6 favourite with three other runners, which is a good price, and it only needs some luck from barrier nine to contend in this. Win chance.

Egyptian Symbol has the form on the board and it cruised to the line in a recent trial to prepare for this. The Bjorn Baker-trained filly ran third behind Mahuta in the Magic Millions Guineas which is a good form indicator for this. It hasn't finished worse than third in six career starts and it should get back from barrier 11 and fly home. $6.00 available which looks a nice each way price.

Kangarilla Joy finished second in the Lightfinger last start and it's close to being at this level. The daughter of Lonhro has won three times from five starts and it should only continue to improve this season. The Snowden's have high hopes for the filly and it's another well supported runner at $6.00.

Race 6 tip: Egyptian Symbol to win ($6.00) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 7 – Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas (1600m)

Press Statement has won six from eight starts including the Guineas and the Hobartville Stakes last time out. The Chris Waller-trained superstar is the $1.50 favourite for this and with the Australian Guineas being held on the same day, this field isn't as strong as it could be. Drawing barrier 12 wasn't ideal, but punters are expecting a dominant win and so are we.

Le Romain hasn't done anything wrong this season with placings behind Spill The Beans and Press Statement. Kris Lees lines up the three-year-old gelding which has come a long way since winning its maiden at Newcastle five starts back, but it has legitimate place claims at $2.70 in this.

Montaigne flashed home late for third in the Hobartville and the extra distance looks ideal. It ran over the mile two back when winning at Randwick and connections were confident it would compete well in the Randwick Guineas. It will get a good run from barrier three and it looks as a upset chance at $11.

Race 7 tip: Press Statement to win ($1.50) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 8 – Hyland Race Colours Challenge Stakes (1000m)

Three-year-old filly English is fresh up after running sixth in the Sires Produce behind Pride Of Dubai. Its start prior was a second placing in the Golden Slipper which is great form for this, but its lack of racing is concerning. It did win two trials to prepare for this which is a good sign and Berry loves riding over the shorter distances. Looks tough to beat at $3.70.

Shiraz has a good fresh up record of four wins from five starts and its third at a recent trial was an eye-catching run. The -trained gelding is a 10-time winner from 17 starts and it's a danger on all track conditions. We're expecting a big campaign and $6.50 says it's a good winning chance in this.

is exactly that and it loves running fresh up. The Joseph Pride-trained gelding has won twice and placed three times fresh and the inside draw will give it every chance to control the tempo over the 1000m. It looked good in its trials and this distance is perfect. $5 looks spot on.

Race 8 tip: Shiraz to win ($6.50) at CrownBet.com.au
