WE ARE on the downswing of the Melbourne Spring Carnival, but lucky enough for punters we have a great betting card at Sandown this Saturday.
The Zipping Classic, Sandown Guineas and Sandown Cup are the three feature races on the meeting and it’s full of Melbourne Cup expats which are looking for some easier cash.
Unfortunately Dandino has been scratched from the Zipping Classic which now makes it a wide open betting field, but there’s still some classy horses on display and great betting fields on offer.
In particular the $250,000 Sandown Guineas which our bookmakers have labeled as their best race of the day. Check in for their Guineas tips, days best, value runner and lay of the day.

Sandown Guineas bookmaker bets
Bet365.com.au – Don’t Doubt Mamma ($3.20)
“In a tricky Sandown Guineas, finding it difficult to pick anything outside this filly. Dominant winner in the Lexus Hybrid Plate and the step back up to 1600m shouldn’t be a problem.”
WilliamHill.com.au – Mahuta ($5)
“Has really excelled since the application of blinkers having won three in a row. Should put himself in the right spot once again and take plenty of beating.’
CrownBet.com.au – Ngarimu ($8.50)
“Looked green on debut but won well. Then stepped up to Listed level and acquitted himself well when third behind the promising Palentino, in what looks to be a race that will have winners galore out of it.”
“Impressive winning at the Flemington carnival and if repeats that performance will be winning here. From a perfect barrier she should be able to get into a gun position and let down when required.”
Bookmakers best bets and each way picks
Sportsbet.com.au – I Am Zelady (3.20) Rosehill, Race 6
“Trialled sensationally in preparation for her return to racing. Looks like getting a good run on the speed and is beautifully placed on the limit weight. Only needs to be forward enough first-up to be winning this.”
Each way – Treatmelikealady ($9) Doomben, Race 8
“She struggled on the wet track last start. Likely to get conditions to suit and has in-form apprentice Matthew McGillivray on board. $9 looks value and may get better on the day.”
CrownBet.com.au – Inz’n’out ($2.90) Rosehill, Race 4
“Expecting some give in the ground on Saturday, which will suit this bloke. Had excuses first run after a freshen up, goes well second-up, Diamond Oasis the danger.”
Each way – He’s Our Rokki – scratched
“Import that should be fitter here after a solid third at his Australian debut. Should be suited by the extra distance of this and gets his chance to breakthrough here.”
Each way – La Fleurette ($21) Sandown, Race 2
“Hit the line well when winning last start when the winkers were applied. Drawn to get a good run and worth a play each-way at the juicy odds on offer.”
Bet365.com.au – Dandino – scratched
Each way – Hosting ($9) Sandown, Race 4
“Likely to find this company easier than last start where he was a great run third with multiple checks up the straight. A repeat performance will have him right in the finish.”
Lays of the day
Sweet Varden ($4.60) Sandown, Race 1
“A first starter for Tony McEvoy, there’s too many unknowns here with multiple first starters and runners that have been competitive in previous Group races to take the $4.60 on offer.”
Don’t Doubt Mamma ($3.60) Sandown, Race 7
“Looked impressive to the naked eye last start however there was no depth in the race and she was flattered by the breakneck early speed. Worth risking against the boys here.”
Scarlet Billows ($3.20) Sandown, Race 9
“Hard to go against the power couple of the spring, but I’m expecting the rise in weights and class of the Sydney mares to bring the allconquering Darren Weir/Michelle Payne combination undone.”
Under The Louvre ($3.20) Sandown, Race 3
“He’s been one of our favourite horses during the spring being beaten as favourite a few times. His racing pattern makes it hard for him to win consistently and unlikely to get tempo to suit in this.”
