For Tamworth trainer , all roads lead to Racecourse this Saturday for the running of the AU$500,000 (1400m).

Morgan has two strong chances in pair Edit and , who are pegged at +500 and +1000 respectively with Bovada.

Edit qualified through the Scone wildcard race a week-and-a-half ago coming second to , while Anethole won the Tamworth heat beating and Banju.

Morgan can understand why Edit has gotten out in the market a little bit given his preparation heading to a bottomless track at Randwick.

“He's going really good,” he said.

“I can probably see the angle with him getting out a little bit in the market. They broke the track record there first up at Scone and he's going 13 days onto a Heavy 10.

“As far as the horse has come on though, he's come on ten fold and a much better horse is going to the races on Saturday.”

Asked about the heavy track that Randwick will most likely be for Day 1 of , Morgan says he's not sure if Edit will handle the wet conditions.

“He doesn't have any heavy form which is a big query,” the trainer said.

“The favourite () and us both don't have any heavy form so that's always a question and it'll be answered on Saturday.”

Drawn barrier three, Morgan expects jockey Aaron Bullock to settle a few pairs closer than his previous few runs.

“I'd like to think he'll be two or three pairs closer to what everyone would normally have him,” Morgan said.

“He has drawn barrier 11 three times out of four starts so he's sort of gone back more because of the wide draws.

“I'd like to see him no worse than midfield.”

Morgan's other runner Anethole goes into the final a month between runs, and his trainer says it was the plan all along.

“We did that on purpose. It was a month going between 1200m and 1400m when he won the heat here so it's something we've purposely done with him,” he added.

“In saying that, he has had a long campaign, a very fruitful one but hopefully we can just get that one more run out of him and he can be very competitive.”

Morgan concedes that Anethole probably hasn't improved since his win at Tamworth, saying he was really wound up there and was at his absolute best to win the heat.

“He was really wound up at Tamworth, I wouldn't say he's improved because he was at his absolute best to win that,” he said.

“I'd say his form is similar.

“The barrier is a real killer for him I feel, because he'll go back from the draw and that will make it a bit more difficult for him.

“The last four times I've taken him to Randwick, he's run top three every time. So that's great stats for a horse going to the Country Championships Final.

“He's mister consistent and very tough.

“He ticks a lot of boxes.”

When asked who Morgan's best chance was of taking out the race, he said if the real Edit turns up then he'll be the one most likely saluting.

“I'd have to say Edit right now,” Morgan said.

“The best of Edit can win but if he doesn't bring his A-game then I'll be hoping like hell that Anethole turns up and runs his usual honest race, he's very tough and he'll run well.”

Anethole will be going straight to the paddock for a spell after the final, but Edit will most likely be heading to either or Scone for his next assignment.

“He'll most likely go to Brisbane or a Listed race at Scone,” Morgan said.

“A race like the Luscan Star over 1300m (at Scone) might be ideal for him.”
