Detonator Jack, while perhaps not among Ciaron Maher‘s most celebrated contenders, appears poised to thrive in Saturday’s Doncaster Mile amidst conditions tailored to his strengths.
Darren Dance, owner of the five-year-old, conveyed his excitement about the prospect, stating to Racing.com, “He’s in great order, it’s very exciting to get into the Doncaster.”
Dance emphasized Detonator Jack’s versatility, noting, “We’ve always believed he goes as good on wet as he does on dry; when he won The Gong it was pretty wet and he seemed to get through it well.”
Assessing the forthcoming race, Dance highlighted several favourable factors, remarking, “It’s a hard race to win but for once we have a decent gate (2), he’s got a low weight (52.5 kilograms) and it’s going to rain, so that’s three things in our favour.”
Anticipating the impact of inclement weather, Dance speculated, “If it’s really wet there’ll probably be a few come out, a few that don’t go in it, so there might only be six-to-eight horses that can win the race on the day and he’s probably one of them.”
Concluding with confidence, Dance affirmed, “It’s not every day you get a $4 million race with a lot of things in your favour, so I don’t think there’ll be any excuses for him on the day.”
