Dear Demi has become the fourth horse to be scratched from the 2014 Caulfield Cup after she was found to have a throat infection earlier today. The star Sydney mare, which ran third in last year’s Caulfield Cup behind Fawkner and Dandino, was rated a $16 chance with Sportingbet.
Also scratched from the race are Dandino, Gris Caro and Bande, with the latter set to start as the clear second elect until he was scratched today.
Dear Demi’s withdrawal means that the fourth emergency, Renew, will get a start in the feature. Renew is trained by Archie Alexander and is an outsider at $251 with Sportingbet.
Lucia Valentina remains favourite for the Caulfield Cup and is currently at $3.80 with Sportingbet. The next best are Lidari and Brambles, which gained a start after Dandino’s scratching, with both sharing second favouritism at $9 with Sportingbet.
